Polynesian Resort

We are vacationing in Disney World. I’m staying at the Polynesian Resort.?
I would like to request the building with the least noise because we have a little 20 month old. I would also like a view of the park because she might enjoy the fireworks. Any suggestions as to what building I might request to stay in.
Hello!
The Polynesian is pretty quiet (and beautiful!!) but I would say the loudest would be the pool area. For a view of the park/fireworks, there is lagoon view and magic kindgom view. Although you can request these, their sometimes not guarenteed. It is nice to be able to watch the fireworks from there so there are no crowds to fight and you can relax and enjoy yourselves. My email is misty@magicalvacationplanner.com if you would like any free planning help =)

Armed Forces Recreation Centers: Shades of Green, Dragon Hill Lodge, Hale Koa Hotel, New Sanno Hotel, Edelweiss Vacation Village and Campground $8.78 Purchase includes free access to book updates online and a free trial membership in the publisher’s book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Not illustrated. Excerpt: Shades of Green is a United States Department of Defense-owned resort located in the city of Bay Lake, Florida, near Walt Disney World. It is an Armed Forces Recreation Center (AFRC) resort and therefore a part of the military’s Morale, Welfare, and Recreation program (MWR). The newly expanded resort is one of three AFRC’s located in the United States. The resort is self supporting and operates from non-appropriated funds and all profits are put back into the resort. Shades of Green is located near the Magic Kingdom, just southwest of the Polynesian Resort. The resort is not, however, on the monorail loop that services the Magic Kingdom and Epcot. Transportation around Walt Disney World is provided exclusively by a separate fleet of buses which shuttle guests to and from the Transportation and Ticket Center, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Downtown Disney, and the water parks. Shades of Green does not have a pervasive theme like other Disney resorts, and the general decor is that of a modern country club. Exposed roof beams and arches of hewn stone give the resort an American Craftsman feel. The main staircase encircles a two story rock formation with waterfalls flowing through it. The resort located in a wooded setting complete with waterfalls and tropical gardens. The resort has 586 guest rooms, most of which are standard guest rooms with over 480 square feet (45 m) of floor space. The standard room offered at Shades of Green is larger than the standard rooms throughout the Walt Disney World Resort. The resort also has 11 suites that can accommodate up to 8 people. The resort has two lighted tennis courts, two heated swimming pools, a children’s pool, hot tub, fitness center, arcade, and laundry facili… More: |

Comments from early visitors, captured from the back of the postcards, are included to illuminate authentic impressions of these islands. Paradise Laborers: Hotel Work in the Global Economy $67.21 Resorts have become important to American society and its economy; one in eight Americans is now employed by the tourism industry. Yet despite the ubiquity of hotels, little has been written about those who labor there. Drawing on eight years of participant observation and in-depth interviews, the renowned ethnographers Patricia A. Adler and Peter Adler reveal the occupational culture and lifestyles of workers at five luxury Hawaiian resorts. These resorts employ a workforce that is diverse in gender, class, ethnicity, and nationality. Hawaiian resort workers, like those in nearly all resorts, consist of four groups. New immigrants hold difficult and dirty low-status jobs for little pay. Locals provide an authentic Polynesian flavor for guests, a ready pool of youthful high-turnover employees, and a population trapped in a place that offers few occupational alternatives. Managers tend to be middle-class, college-educated young and middle-aged men from the mainland whose lifestyles are occupationally transient. Seekers, mostly young, white, and from the mainland as well, escape to paradise seeking adventure, warmth, extreme sports, or some alternate life experiences. The Adlers describe the work, lives, and careers of these four groups that labor in organizations that never close, with shifts scheduled around the clock and around the year. Paradise Laborers adds to the growing interest in the global flow of labor, as these immigrant workers display different trends in gendered opportunities and mobility than those exhibited by other groups. The authors propose a political economy of tourist labor in which they compare the different expectations and rewards of organizations, employees, and local labor markets. |

Walt Disney World Transit $9.16 Purchase includes free access to book updates online and a free trial membership in the publisher’s book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Excerpt: The Walt Disney World Monorail System is a public transit system in operation around the Walt Disney World Resort. The Walt Disney World Resort currently operates eleven Mark VI monorail trains on three lines of service, with one additional train expected to come online by 2010. The monorail system opened in 1971 with two routes and with Mark IV monorail trains, expanded to three lines in 1982, and switched to Mark VI trains in 1989. The Walt Disney World Monorail operates over a span of 14.7 miles (23.7 km), with around 50 million Disney guests traveling on the monorail each year. The three services on two distinct routes on the Walt Disney World Monorail are: The Express and Resort services on the dual-beam Magic Kingdom route: The single beam Epcot route: A spur track connects the Express and Resort lines to the maintenance shop. Another spur connects the Epcot and Express lines and is located northeast of the Transportation and Ticket Center. Entrance to the TTC platform for Magic Kingdom Sign above the entrance to the Epcot platformThe monorail beams, which are made of concrete with a special polystyrene core to lighten their weight, came by train from Washington. The system opened with the rest of the Walt Disney World Resort on October 1, 1971. It initially featured four stations: the Transportation and Ticket Center, Disney’s Polynesian Resort, the Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Contemporary Resort. The Epcot line and station were added during that park’s construction, opening officially on October 1, 1982. The most recent addition was the Grand Floridian station, which was opened in 1988 along with the resort hotel. During the construction of Epcot, Florida residents could request a complimentary ticket for a round-trip on the Epcot lin… More: |
