When. Deciding when to go will be top of your list. Much will depend on your budget, kids’ school schedules and other factors such as what you like to do individually and as a family, will heavily influence your choice. Tip #1: Visit Disney when the kids are in school to savor the quieter theme areas more. Lines will be shorter plus more comfortable2. What. This is a critical step in the look. There is so much for doing that you’ll want to plan out what everyone wishes to see and do. Tip #2: List the “Must Do’s” and do a secondary list of “Maybe’s”. Involve everyone in such a process and you’ll have a more enjoyable trip. You’ll not only make big savings but you can keep all the family together and create some great memories. 7. Relax and revel in. Don’t forgetto take some time out to do absolutely nothing. The temptation with a Disney vacation is to always be on the go.

 Animation

Animation

In amusement parks and theme parks the role of architecture in generating an emotional experience has long outgrown its mere functional and structural aspects. This trend is now pervading shopping malls, airports, museums, even banks, and is one which progressive architects will have to confront, as it becomes an increasingly important feature for investors and users in our pleasure-seeking society. With a wealth of international examples ranging from the prototype Disneyland (where Walt Disney’s concepts of animation were congenially transformed into reality) to historical amusement parks and modern day theme parks, Animation investigates this global trend in contemporary architecture for the first time. Rich visual images and astute analytical texts reveal how animation architecture functions, the effects it can achieve and the uses it can be put to.

Excerpt: Shades of Green is a United States Department of Defense-owned resort located in the city of Bay Lake, Florida, near Walt Disney World. It is an Armed Forces Recreation Center (AFRC) resort and therefore a part of the military’s Morale, Welfare, and Recreation program (MWR). The newly expanded resort is one of three AFRC’s located in the United States. The resort is self supporting and operates from non-appropriated funds and all profits are put back into the resort. Shades of Green is located near the Magic Kingdom, just southwest of the Polynesian Resort. The resort is not, however, on the monorail loop that services the Magic Kingdom and Epcot. Transportation around Walt Disney World is provided exclusively by a separate fleet of buses which shuttle guests to and from the Transportation and Ticket Center, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Downtown Disney, and the water parks. Shades of Green does not have a pervasive theme like other Disney resorts, and the general decor is that of a modern country club. Exposed roof beams and arches of hewn stone give the resort an American Craftsman feel. The main staircase encircles a two story rock formation with waterfalls flowing through it. The resort located in a wooded setting complete with waterfalls and tropical gardens. The resort has 586 guest rooms, most of which are standard guest rooms with over 480 square feet (45 m) of floor space. The standard room offered at Shades of Green is larger than the standard rooms throughout the Walt Disney World Resort. The resort also has 11 suites that can accommodate up to 8 people. The resort has two lighted tennis courts, two heated swimming pools, a children’s pool, hot tub, fitness center, arcade, and laundry facili… More:

In 1915 the United Daughters of the Confederacy leased the land and commissioned Gutzon Borglum, later the sculptor of Mount Rushmore, to carve the Lost Cause memorial on the mountain where the second Ku Klux Klan was resurrected by William J. Simmons. Proceeding intermittently over six decades, the project was given added impetus in the wake of the South’s massive resistance to racial integration. Capitalizing on this impulse, the state of Georgia funded the completion of the project in 1958 for use as a tourist attraction. Opening as a theme park in 1970, Stone Mountain now draws some five million visitors a year, exceeded only by the Disney theme parks in Orlando, Florida. David Freeman’s Carved in Stone narrates the development of Stone Mountain from natural wonder to historic site to recreational park. This elegantly written story recounts the fits and starts of the Stone Mountain project, tracing the mountain’s changing meaning over time. Readers of Georgia history and enthusiasts of Confederate iconography will find Freeman’s work a fascinating story.

Aus Wikipedia. Nicht dargestellt. Auszug: Disneyland Paris, commonly referred to as Euro Disney, is a holiday and recreation resort in Marne-la-Vallée, a new town in the eastern suburbs of Paris, France. The complex is located 32 km (20 mi) from the centre of Paris and lies for the most part within the commune of Chessy, Seine-et-Marne. Disneyland Paris comprises two theme parks, a retail, dining and entertainment district, and seven Disney-owned hotels. Operating since 12 April 1992, it was the second Disney resort to open outside the United States (following Tokyo Disney Resort) and the first to be owned and operated by Disney. Disneyland Paris is owned and operated by French company Euro Disney S.C.A., a public company of which 39.78 percent of its stock is held by The Walt Disney Company, 10 percent by the Saudi Prince Alwaleed and 50.22 percent by other shareholders. The senior leader at the resort is chairman and CEO Philippe Gas. The complex was a subject of controversy during the periods of negotiation and construction in the late 1980s and early ’90s, when a number of prominent French figures voiced their opposition and protests were held by French labour unions and others. A further setback followed the opening of the resort as park attendance, hotel occupancy and revenues fell below projections. Partly as a result of this, the complex was renamed from Euro Disney Resort to Disneyland Paris in 1995. In July of that year, the company saw its first quarterly profit. A second theme park, Walt Disney Studios Park, opened to the public 16 March 2002. With 15,405,000 combined visitors to the resort’s Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studios Park in the fiscal year of 2009, it is France’s and Europe’s most visited

Designing Disney's Theme Park: The Architecture of Reassurance

Designing Disney’s Theme Park: The Architecture of Reassurance

$204.2

Uniting a roster of authors chosen from wide-ranging disciplines, this study is the first to examine the influence of Disneyland on both our built environment and our architectural imagination. Tracing the relationship of the Disney parks to their historical forebears, it charts Disneyland’s evolution from one man’s personal dream to a multinational enterprise, a process in which the Disney magic has moved ever closer to the real world. Editor Karal Ann Marling, Professor of Art History and American Studies at the University of Minnesota, draws upon her pioneering work in the Disney archives to reconstruct and analyze the intentions and strategies behind the parks. She is joined by Marty Sklar, Vice Chairman and Principal Creative Executive of Walt Disney Imagineering, historian Neil Harris, art historian Erika Doss, geographer Yi-Fu Tuan, critic Greil Marcus, and architect Frank Gehry to provide a unique perspective on one of the great post-war American icons.

Designing Disney: Imagineering and the Art of the Show

Designing Disney: Imagineering and the Art of the Show

$14.99

Designing Disney sets into history and puts into context the extraordinary contributions of the late John Hench, who, at the age of 94, still came into his office at Imagineering each day. His principles of theme park design, character design, and use of color made him a legendary figure, not only for Disney fans but also for students and aficionados of architecture, engineering, and design.Designing Disney reveals the magic behind John’s great discoveries and documents his groundbreaking in several key areas: “Design Philosophy” examines the values, attitudes, aesthetics, and logic that went into the original concepts for Disney theme parks. In “The Art of the Show” and “The Art of Color,” Hench reveals the essence of what makes the parks work so well. And in “The Art of Character,” he lets the reader in on the how and why of the Disney characters’ inherent popularity—their timeless human traits, archetypal shape and gestures that suggest these qualities graphically, and their emotional resonance in our lives.

Adjoining the 2001 agricultural themed area “Bountiful Valley Farm”, the “a bug’s land”, originally to be called “Flik’s Fun Fair”, opened in Autumn of 2002 and sought to offer kid-friendly rides sorely lacking from the park’s initial roster. Flik’s Fun Fair The area in “a bug’s land” is themed as though guests are actually bug sized. Oversized human items and foodstuffs are scattered around the land, similar to the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids play area at Disney Hollywood Studios. The entrance to the section featuring the rides is a box of “Cowboy Crunchies”, a reference to “Woody” from another Pixar film, Toy Story 2 . The fictional backstory for the land reveals that Flik and the other bugs were inspired to create their own fun fair when Disney’s California Adventure opened next door to them. When the Imagineers set out to build the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, they discovered the bugs in the garden and decided to open up Flik’s fair to park guests. This Snow White’s Corruptible Mortal State giclee on paper features the fairest one of all, taking the place of the classic tightrope girl from the stretching gallery of Disney theme parks’ Haunted Mansion attraction. Limited to just 125 hand-numbered pieces, this speldnid work of art is signed by artist Robert Farrell. Measures 19-inches tall x 13-inches wide, and includes a certificate of authenticity. Disney Underground celebrates the interpretations of a new generation of visual artists stemming from the urban-underground pop-art movement originating in 1970s Los Angeles. Described as abstract pop surrealism, the movement has gained a foothold in the fine art community. Disney Underground allows art patrons and Disney collectors alike to enjoy Disney as never before appreciated, interpreted through the cultural lens of artists breaking new ground in this exciting and innovative art movement. Gicl?e (pronounced zhee-clay ) is an invented name for the process of making fine-art prints from a digital source using ink-jet printing. The word was coined to distinguish commonly known industrial Iris proofs from the fine-art prints artists were producing on the same printers. The name has since come to mean any high-quality, ink-jet print, and is often used in galleries and print shops to denote such. In the past few years, the word (as a fine-art term) has come to be associated with prints using fade-resistant archival inks and the inkjet printers that use them. A wide variety of substrates are available, including various textures and finishes such as matte photo paper, watercolor paper, cotton canvas, or artist textured vinyl. Disney and his Worlds

Disney and his Worlds

$49.95

Disney films, merchandising and theme parks are one of the defining features of our times. Disney and His Worlds is an account of Walt Disney, the man and the organizational inheritance he left and particularly of the history and character of the theme parks. Alan Brymanlooks at the whole Disney phenomenon both in business terms and as a cultural construct. He raises important issues about the parks: the significance of consumption within them; their nature as tourism sites and their representations as past and future. In the process, he questions the assumption, common in recent literature, that the parks are sites of postmodern sensibility. This book is a valuable overview of the literature on the Disney Organization and its significance to contemporary culture.

The book covers all the attractions and rides; each with a family age and fun rating. Juz also turns his attention on where the best places to eat are within Disney Resorts and how to meet your kid’s favourite characters at meal time rather than having to endure the scrums in the parks. ‘Disneyland Paris: The Family Guide’ helps you get the most from your vacation both in terms of fun and cash saving ideas. This book is designed to be a helpful companion and Tour guide to use before and during your vacation.
