Festival Dreams

Festival Dreams
In Amsterdam there is a festival called “fields of rock”, does anyone know where I can purchase tickets?

I want to take my husband to Amsterdam to see the festival “fields of rock” June 2008. This is a dream of his that I want to make Come True.I want to find out where and when I can purchase these tickets. This is part of a Christmas present.

You’ll need to keep an eye on this site:

http://www.fieldsofrock.nl/

There is no 2008 info as yet, so ticketsale hasn’t started yet. As soon as things get started you will be able to get tickets here. What I would do for the x-mas present is to create a kind of token ticket (get creative) which he can then exchagne for the real one when you have ordered them.

By the way, it’s not in Amsterdam but in Biddingshuizen which is in the “Flevopolder” (or at least it was this year). If you go there you can tell your friends you’ve walked on the seabed and never got wet. :) While you’re there: tourist tip: go visit the Bataviawerf.

It’s 75km from Amsterdam. About 1.5 hour by train (you have to change)

The Moody Blues Hall of Fame – Live From the Royal Albert Hall

$7.23

With graying baby boomers becoming key underwriters of viewer-supported television, a staid Public Broadcasting System grudgingly acknowledged the existence of rock & roll in the 1990s. The Moody Blues, via their somewhat heavy-handed, 1993 concert video A Night at Red Rocks, were among the first Woodstock generation acts to end up in constant rotation during affiliate pledge drives. The band’…

This production triumphantly fulfills a complex and difficult assignment. Gossamer fantasy may be the hardest style to put into operatic form, and Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream is particularly challenging. Some of the challenge lies in its various levels of action and characterization, each demanding a different kind of music: fairies and mortals, nobles and peasants, lovers and…

Soon enough, Kate herself decides that leaving the Mockery behind may just be the best career move she’ll ever make-until Hardstone’s wildly attractive son, Nat, takes up residence at the Mercury’s office with an offer Kate cannot refuse-a chance to cover the Cannes Film Festival on the luxurious Côte d’Azur. Best in Show: The Films of Christopher Guest and Company

Best in Show: The Films of Christopher Guest and Company

$1.79

Best in Show is the first in-depth look at the method behind film director and actor Christopher Guest’s madness – and genius. John Kenneth Muir focuses his attention on the acclaimed Guest-directed trilogy of what some call “mockumentaries”: Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show and A Mighty Wind. In these films Guest has escorted rapt audiences into the purportedly real worlds of a small-town theatrical company, dog show competition, and folk music festival. Muir also details the events that lead to Rob Reiner’s influential and legendary This Is Spinal Tap, which Rolling Stone called the best rock and roll movie of all time, and in which Guest played the part of guitarist Nigel Tufnel. Much of Best in Show exemplifies the unique process by which Guest directs films. He employs a common repertory company, improvises scenes often without any rehearsal, and does not use any screenplay with dialogue, instead following a detailed outline often co-authored with his ace actor/writer Eugene Levy. Company members that have been interviewed for this book include Fred Willard, Harry Shearer, Bob Balaban and Michael Hitchcock. Guest’s influences – Saturday Night Live, National Lampoon – as well as his more conventional comedies, such as The Big Picture and Almost Heroes, are studied. Best in Show is general enough to bring new fans to the table, yet detailed enough to satisfy the most in-the-know Guest fan and film student. A complete filmography with Guest’s directing, acting and writing credits is included, as is the appendix, “You Know You’re in a Christopher Guest Film When …” Guest once commented, “I am drawn to people who have dreams that are slightly out of reach.” Now, thanks to John Kenneth Muir, the fascinating world of Christopher Guest and company is substantially more within reach.

What do you do when you’ve finished with the love of your life?David’s a mess. He doesn’t know how to get over his ex, the Eater of Souls. He’s tried traditional methods, such as sleeping with a co-worker and looking at his female friends in a new light. He’s even tried talking to his parents — only to discover that they’re definitely having a lot more sex than he is right now. But the Eater of Souls is still there, like a phantom limb after a painful amputation. Then along comes the Goddess. She’s funny, she’s clever, she’s beautiful: in short, she’s perfect. But, as David well knows, the problem isn’t meeting the woman of your dreams — it’s managing not to screw up once you’ve found her. Shot through with biting dialogue and beguilingly oddball characters, Booty Nomad is both extremely funny and unexpectedly touching — a memorable first novel from a distinctive new talent. Scott Mebus is a novelist, songwriter, playwright, comic, and music producer. His rock musical Tarnish appeared in the New York International Fringe Festival. Most recently, Scott was a producer for MTV and VH1, where he worked on the Tom Green Show, Real World, and MTV Yoga. He lives in New York City.

Canyon of Dreams: The Magic and the Music of Laurel Canyon

Canyon of Dreams: The Magic and the Music of Laurel Canyon

$17.95

A lavishly illustrated insider’s look at 80 years of music and culture in Laurel Canyon.  Laurel Canyon is a zip code with its own play list: to name just a few, Sonny & Cher, The Doors, The Turtles, Canned Heat, Monkees, Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne; Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young; Eagles, and Carole King all cultivated their immortal sounds in this L.A.-based musical fraternity.  Written by a long-time L.A. resident who knows them all, Canyon of Dreams traces the history of the community and its enduring legacy. Taking a deeply personal approach, it uses a multiple-voice narration based on exclusive interviews with the area’s musical elite. Because of their close and long-time connection with Kubernik, some of these stars are speaking openly for the first time.  Eye-opening both visually and informationally, this is a book no music lover can be without! Interview highlights include: - For the first time in years, the three surviving Doors talk about performances, recordings, band dynamics, and, of course, Jim Morrison  - Randy Meisner reminisces about the Eagles first gig and the recording of “One of These Nights” - Graham Nash reflects on life with Joni Mitchell and describes writing “Our House” - Lou Adler discusses his legendary Sunset Strip venues—the Whisky a Go-Go, Roxy Theater, Rainbow Bar & Grill, and Tapestry—and, with Michele Phillips, reflects on the Monterey Pop Festival. - Slash, a child of the Canyon, details the formation of Guns N’ Roses - And much, much more!

Ever been to Colma? It’s that little town right next to San Francisco. No? Well, its claim to fame is that the dead outnumber the living 1500 to 1 (cause of its cemeteries, don’t get any crazy ideas). But it’s really just like any other sleepy town that rests in the shadow of a huge progressive city – New York’s got New Jersey, Philly’s got Cherry Hill, San Francisco’s got Colma, the list goes on and on. And in these towns, there are kids, and one day, these kids must grow up – or at least start to.Best pals Rodel, Billy, and Maribel live in Colma and they love it! (not really). After graduating from high school the trio finds themselves in a state of limbo; fresh out of high school, they are just beginning to explore a new unstructured world. Like most kids, they are on the brink of self-discovery, but aren’t in much of a rush. What is the rush, anyway? They are having too much fun doing nothing or crashing college parties. But when newfound revelations and romances challenge their relationships with one another and their parents, the trio must assess what to hold onto, and how to best follow their dreams.Oh, there’s one more thing – they sing. Colma: The Musical boasts 13 musical numbers featuring all original music by H.P. Mendoza and is Richard Wong’s feature directorial debut. It has been awarded the Special Jury Prize at the San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival, Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival and San Diego Asian Film Festival. It was honored with nominations for the Gotham Award ( Best Film Not in a Theater Near You ) and the Independent Spirit Award ( Someone to Watch Award ).

The holiday season is a time for joy, but Laney Taylor couldn’t be more depressed. She’s selling the last piece of her grandmother’s exquisite antique china to feed the hordes of ‘new’ homeless living in their cars in an abandoned parking lot on the outskirts of town. But on the way to the shop, an accident lands her in the hospital–and into the arms of the two hot, hunky Samaritans who saved her life. Josh Goldman and Zach Brenner share a successful construction business, and a secret longing. They can’t believe their good fortune when they save Laney Taylor from a freezing to death. Both men have desired Laney since high school, and made a pact that if they ever had the chance to have a relationship with the sexy, full-figured woman of their dreams, they wouldn’t mind sharing. When a winter storm gives Josh and Zach an opportunity to share the pleasures of the ‘festival of lights’ with Laney, and a chance to fulfill their long-held erotic fantasies, they can hardly believe the good fortune the Hanukkah holiday has brought them. While fate and circumstance may require their eventual separation, all three are determined that they will not waste a moment of their… Eight Erotic Nights.

 Fever Dreams and Heavenly Nightmares

Fever Dreams and Heavenly Nightmares

$20.32

Fever Dreams and Heavenly Nightmares is the long awaited DVD compilation of independent filmmaker Chel White s visionary work. Spanning 20 years, this collection is an hour s worth of award-winning short films, astonishing animation, and more. From a story about a man who is obsessed with soil to an expressionistic choreography of photocopied bodies, Chel White s films defy easy categorization. Exploring love, obsession, memories and dreams, his work is sublime and intricately beautiful. Chel is often describes as a cinematic poet, and many of his films have a darkly humorous edge to them. The Austin Chronicle says, Chel White s work seems to dispatch itself in some secret, subversive code, flashing messages amid animation, obscure stock footage, and actors with crazy eyes. The Fever Dreams and Heavenly Nightmares disk features Magda, Dirt, and Soulmate, three adaptations of stories by long-time monologist and radio artist Joe Frank.Fresh from its run of over 50 film festivals, Magda is a tale of a young man who joins a traveling circus after falling in love with the enigmatic contortionist. The film s actors are wooden literally. Using pose-able artist manikins in stop-motion animation, the film has a surprising emotional depth. To date, Magda has collected several first place awards, including the Grand Jury Prize for Best Animated Short from the Florida Film Festival. The Minneapolis/St. Paul International Film Festival describes Magda as a truly astounding short film .The newest film on the DVD is A Painful Glimpse Into My Writing Process (In Less Than 60 Seconds). It is black humor tour de force derived from a poem by Scott Poole. The International Film Festival of Boston describes the film as a dark comedy (that) captures the humiliating process of wracking your brain for something original to say. Producer and indie film maven Christine Vachon (Far From Heaven, Boys Don t Cry) described Chel White s Dirt as a post-modern Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

Excerpt: Dersu Uzala (Russian : , Japanese : ·; alternate U.S. title: Dersu Uzala: The Hunter ) is a 1975 joint Soviet -Japanese film production directed by Akira Kurosawa . The film won the Grand Prix at the Moscow Film Festival and the 1975 Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film . The film is based on the 1923 memoir Dersu Uzala by Russian explorer Vladimir Arsenyev , about his exploration of the Sikhote-Alin region of Siberia over the course of multiple expeditions in the early 20th century. The film is almost entirely shot outdoors in the ruggedly beautiful Siberian wilderness. As with most of Kurosawa’s work, each frame is carefully composed to form a dramatic picture.
